Ruger Woodside VS Win. 101 Diamond

Looking at 101 Diamonds and ran across a Ruger Woodside. I have never seen a "Woodside" before. Is it a good gun? Is it dumb of me to be thinking of buying one instead of a 101 Diamond? I am not a big Ruger fan so, any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks Ryan[:p]

    The woodside is a Red Label with the circassian wood and the wood side plates My red label has over 20000 rounds thru it without any failures or parts breakage. Should something ever go wrong Ruger is still hear to repair it. You have few options with the 101. japan vs America issue also. I'd buy the Ruger

    That is like the difference between a Chevy GEO, and a Corvette. The Winchester is 3 times the gun the Ruger Woodside ever will be.

    There are still plenty of parts available for the 101, if you should need them...but I doubt you ever will.

    Thats funny the Geo versus Corvettee comment specially with GM tits up bankrupt, likley a better comparison would be a Ford F-250 4x4 versus a Corvettee, I'd go with the Ruger myself, I have 3 Red Labels differnt gauges never an issue with any, I had one 101 and traded it for a Ruger, didn't care for the MADE IN JAPAN stamp on the 101. My 2 cents.

    I'd say shoot both guns unless you're already familiar with both. . .in which case you probably wouldn't be asking for advice. The Ruger will take a beating but, for me anyway, doesn't balance or swing nearly as nicley as does a 101. That's personal preference and frankly mine would be for a Browning Superposed but I find the fit and feel of the 101 much closer to the Browning than the Ruger. Granted, my Ruger Red Label experience was early in their production and they may be better now. I traded mine after a couple of hunting trips. Buy the one that feels best to you and if possible try to shoot them both before buying.

    i have 2 diamond grade 101's one an o/u and the other an upper barrel single. never shot trap with anything but my 870 or 1100 but had the chance at trying a 101 and it fit me just like my 870 and 1100 so i bought the first single and it balances and feels great then bought the o/u so i could try doubles which i was not doing that great with the 870 at about 35 and the 1100 about 40 on average but withe the 101 went to about 45 for average never shot a 50 but i dont do alot of doubles. with the single barreled 101 never shot a 100 yet but missed first bird in tournament and then ran 123 staright and missed the last but still dont have the 100 staright from it yet. no problems with the 101's and people are always asking me if i will sell the diamonds and i say no. i had a doctor shoot my 101 and he wanted to trade me for his kreighoff. he shot a 25 at the 16 yard and a 22 at the 27 yard while i shot his kreighoff and shot a 25 at the 16 yard and 23 at the 27 yard. made him mad that i did not want to trade but i told him i think my gun is better balanced and moves free and natural compared to his kreighoff he told me he just spent $13,000 for it and i told him to enjoy his gun like i enjoy mine and i would watch out for a diamond 101 for him. found one for him and told him about it and he bought it. end of this from me.
    i have shot trap in the rain where from the time we started shooting till when we were done with the round it dumped 1.1" of rain in that short time and shot a 25 and also shot in an outright blizzard to the point of if the birds got to 45 to 50 yards you could not see them anymore and shot a 25 in that. as hot as 110 degrees to as low as -5 with no problems at all. my choke tubes were hard to change the first time but i think that was because they never had any lube on them. but love the 101 diamond grade but would like to find the under barrel single so i would have all three.
    shot a couple different red labels and never liked the way they fit me or how they swung but still shot good.
