colt python
How can you tell a nickle finish from an ultimate stainless finish? The bluebook lists both and I don't know which one I have. Also how can you tell the year it was made by the serial no.? Does the serial no. give any other info about the gun?

Can anyone help me out with some pointers on changing the barrel on a Colt Python ? Is it a right or left hand thread ? Is the barrel pinned ? Is it recomended to remove the cylander and crane before starting the job ? Any help would be greatly appreciated , Thanks. 0 -
Your Python was made in 1970. Pythons are the cadillac of the Colt revolvers. They are very accurate and reliable.
They are also very collectable. The prices on Colt revolvers has been going thru the roof in the last couple years.
The 4", bottom, is E818X. I bought it brand new for $155 in 1970.

Now thats a quick response. Just FYI in Laredos post he posted an X in place of the last number of his revolver. Yours is roughly 1100 numbers different meaning it was probably made same year.

Thanks for the reply, I couldn't see paying $75. to get that info. He is a great father in law, (ex sheriff) and it was his service piece. The hammer's broken so I'll have to replace that, other than that I can't wait to shoot it!![:)] 0 -
If this was his duty piece It might have had the hammer BOBED to keep it from hanging on clothes ETC this revolver can be fired DOUBLE ACTION not cocking the hammer first or single action cocking the hammer will then give a very light single action trigger pull. Save the original hammer. 0 -
