S&W .38 special
I have inherited a S & W 38special CTG. 4" barrel nickel plated. On but of grip are the # 16229* on the cylinder housing are the # 11056. I know its an old gun my Great Granfather had it in the early 1900's. It has wooden srewed on grips.manuel ejection. On the left side of barrel is 38 S&W Special CTG. One front sight and a groove rear sight. 4 screws on the left side of mainframe. I'd appreciate and help with knowledge of this weapon.

I have inherited a S&W .38 special, model #10-5 (not certain about model #). It is a post-war M&P that I would classify in very good condition.
It has the Walnut Diamond grips, and there is some normal blue wear. I have no need for the revolver and would like some idea of what to ask for it. Advice is appreciated.0 -
Typically, a model 10 in about 85 - 90% condition will sell on this site for about 300 plus. An M&P model may sell a little lower.
I suggest you look on the auction side and see what others (like yours are selling for. There is a "Smart Search" option in green on the main page that will allow you to see what other auctions have recently sold for.

If "MOD 10-5" is stamped on the frame, then it is a Model 10, not a M&P. There are many variations, plus it's difficult to describe wear; Aaron's suggestion is good. You may also want to check the back of the stocks for matching SN.
