Smith & Wesson model 41 date of manufacture

Smith & Wesson model 41 7 3/8 barrel
Serial # A6569XX.

Anybody help with date of manufacture?

  Mr. Dude,
  
  Your ser# was manufactured in 1981.
  
  Your 7 3/8 barrel is pre-1978 as that is when they went to the 7 inch barrel.

  Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd Edition says the 7 3/8 length was discontinued in 1978.
  
  One'a them things that makes you go HMMMM! S'pose I should'nt believe everything I read!

  Checking further, my M41 ser# 5749xx has the 7 inch barrel. Altho I don't have the box, I do have a factory letter from Roy Jinks. It states the change to 7" barrel was 1979 & my gun does in fact have the 7" (plus I also have a 5 1/2").
  
  You might give some thought to getting a letter on your gun, being an unusual configuration may mean "special order".
