Mossberg 500A question
I have this model pictured below. It appears to have an extended tube which goes to the end of barrel but all that will go in it is 4 - 2 3/4 inch shells for a total of 5 including 1 in chamber. Is that the way its made or is there a problem. This is a factory camo Mossberg

May have a plug in it... should hold 7 or 8 IIRC with the long mag tube.
Take barrel off, start putting shells in the mag, it may pop out the end.
If that doesn't do it, you'll need to unscrew the mag. Just go gentle, don't bend/dent the tube.0 -
The tube unscrews from the receiver correct? It on pretty tight and dont want to damage it. 0 -
Yup. They are fairly fine threads, but once you break it free it will be easy.
Or, like I said, take the barrel off. Depending on the shape of the plug you may be able to shake it around, etc. and get it out the end cap...0 -
No need to take the tube off. Just the barrel mossberg plugs are usually dowel rods. and fall right out with just the barrel off.
I suppose to fit hunting regs in the field, and then double for the home protection. Either that or it was a snow goose gun part of the time and a regular hunting arm the rest.0 -

Because it would allow you to have a "field ready" firearm right out of the box. Neat concept, huh?
(If you want greater capacity than hunting regs allow, remove the dowel. It slips out the little hole at the muzzle end of the magazine tube). Don't lose the little "O" rings that are on the wooden dowel, though.

just remove the mag cap, take the spring out, remove the barrel, and dump out the dowel and follower. reverse process without the dowel. 0 -
yep it had a 6 or 7 inch dowel got 7+1 now
