I want to get a silencer or muzzle break and my current barrel didn't have enough metal on the end. I went and threaded it and the threads were not deep enough. It was a military surplus rifle I picked up cheap. The barrel nut was welded to the end so I'm guessing they beat it up and tried to hide it. Anyways that is the last thing holding my rifle back from looking like a show rifle with the money I put into all the parts and I dura coated it.

They are not surplus, they are new rifles that had that feature to allow for importation, and later sale during the AWB.
Just put a AK type slant brake on it.0 -
you know, you have a functional shooter so go get it all hot and have some fun. hate to be a party pooper but what if you find a barrel and then end by $%&^%-up the receiver? or other new problems......

Very true.........the AK is the Ford of rifles. Its reliable, well built, and tough. However, its not a Ferrari so it cant really be souped up too much. But it more than makes up for it in its strengths.
Dont try to make it into something it was never meant to be. If you want something Tacticool, buy a Krebs Custom AK or get an AR0 -
Used to be you could buy a whole AK kit with barrel and all the other parts for $50 to $75. Now that the ATF banned all imports of kits with complete barrels that is no longer the case.
AK kits are still coming in but their barrels are cut up.
Kits with complete barrels are going for $300 to $500 or more. Take off barrels are now hard to find.
If you really want a new barrel, you'll want to look for a Romanian G barrel as it should be able to fit into your receiver's front trunion.

As far as replacing your barrel you will need a hydraulic press and some tooling to get the old one out. Getting a barrel out of a complete receiver is doable if you have the right tools. Otherwise it's a major PITA.
I know this 1st hand, pressed the barrel into my Yugo Krink AK pistol only to find out one of my front trunion rivots was loose and the barrel went in crooked. Took it over to Krebs Custom, and got Marc to press it back out for me. He has the automatic Hydraulic Press and the tool to get around the reciver.

When you figure the price of the new barrel, tooling, press, and frustration. I think you will come to the realization that it would be easier to buy a high quality AK like a Krebs Custom or buy another wasr10 that is already threaded.
Finally, I too broke the muzzle nut off my WASR10 only to find that the barrel threads had been turned down not leaving my enough material to thread it. Instead of worrying about it, I put a little bluing on it and called it a day.
Not worth farking around with as I have built 4 other Romy AK's that are threaded and have a Sar1 that was threaded and refinished by Krebs Custom.0
