Ruger SR 556
By now most everyone probably has heard of Ruger's first AR, the SR556 (MSRP $1995). I apologize in advance if this has been covered but I didn't find anything on this forum when I conducted a search. I was wondering if anyone has seen one or has any idea when they might be delivered/available. It is piston driven as well and seems to be similar to the SIG AR. I realize that Bushmaster offers a piston model and an upgrade kit. Does this system make that much of a difference versus the cost over a standard model AR? Anyway, even if I had the money, I don't expect they will be available in any numbers for some time.

I see some really good info on here about the little black rifle. The new Ruger hasn't been out very long, but what is your opinion of the rifle so far?

A dealer on here is on a waiting list. He said he would be selling them for 1400-1500. Thats reasonable considering the sig, msar, XCR and other piston guns run right around the same price range.
For the $2000, you would be better off buying a LWRC.
or building your own upper from scratch. You would end up with a much higher quality rifle for 2000.00 if you built it right.0 -
Quickmajik: Thanks for your reply and I would have to agree. Around here, the Kansas City area, most people I know, including friends with FFl's, want $2000 and up for the SIG. I said, you mean the SWAT one, not the basic one, and they told me NO. I like the XCR as well but never heard of MASR. I have plenty of time to research this so I appreciate your advice. 0 -
I happen to be a stockhold and recently attended the stockholder's meeting. Before any gun is released they will have a minimum of 1000 on the shelf and be at full production. I expect the first 1000 will go fast 0 -
For the money you could have either a LWRC or a POF. I would wait and see what their reliablity is then maybe get one. 0 -
the MSAR(Microtech Small Arms Research) STG-556, it is an American built clone of the steyr STG-77 or AUG. Its a bullpup. As for 2000.00 for a sig, well thats rediculious/ you can bid on one here and save yourself houndreds of dollars. 0 -

Given the number of Ruger recalls in the past couple of years, I would think waiting until this one has a track record is only prudent. 0 -
