C&R questions

I am considering getting a C&R license and am curious as to how many visits the ATF makes a year to C&R holders ?, and are they announced visits? and what do they look for ?

    A friend of mine just received his C&R and also received a bunch of yellow forms, ie: the ones like you fill out when you buy a gun. When he sells a C&R gun is he required to make the buyer fill one out and call in the background check?

    Also, on the license it says it does not enable holder to engage in the dealing of curios & relics. If he buys a C&R gun and sells it for the same amount, ie: not making a profit, would this constitute dealing C&R's?

    Per their rules, they may make one visit per year at their discretion. Yes, the notify you first.

    Of course, remember they are ATF so they can really do whatever they want if they feel they have cause.

    If you are selected for a routine review, they generally only look through your bound book & remind you of your responsibilities.

    In those rare cases where they have probable cause to believe that you have committed a gross violation of the law, they will likely have a search & seizure warrant, & may not come at a time of your convenience. And, they won't be polite.

    As long as you exercise common sense, it is likely that you will never have contact with them once your application is approved.

    I've has a C&R FFL for about 20 years and I've had exactly one inspection during that time. I've held a dealer FFL for 25 years and have naturally been inspected more than a single time, but as a C&R FFL holder your chances of seeing a BATFE inspection are pretty slim...Unless you go looking for trouble!

    I have had an 03 C&R License for about 6 years now and never been visited at all for inspection.

    I have had 4 Calif Dangerous Weapons Permits and was only visited for the initial application process.

    I have had mine for 8 years and have not been inspected yet. From what I have seen on other forums, they usually want to check the serial #s on your guns with the serial #s in your bound book. As long as you keep good records there should be no problem. My advise if you ever get checked is to have all the guns on your books laid out in order so the process goes quickly. Any gun not in your book should be of no concern to the inspector. I would not give out any info that is not requested..

    I got my C&R lic last May and this past Feb I had a inspection. It was a random out of the blue draw and the agent siad that would probably be the last time I saw him unless I called him up. He brought out a bunch of the information that was SUPPOSE to be sent with my license and went over eveything with me. We shot the bull and talked a while, he gave me a bunch of phone numbers for different people I could call if I ever needed answers on stuff and he left.
