700 rem 300 win mag with zeiss w/ 56 Obj

Can anyone tell me what size ring I have to use when mounting a 30mm tube scope w a 56 Obj. on my 700 Remington in 300 win mag cal????
I have a one piece Leopold base and I am using Leopold rings...but I don't know if I can use medium or do I have to use high rings for this application???

    I dont have an answer for you on this one but I will say the 56mm objective is the size of the lens. Even with the same size lens there are different size of housings so you actually need to measure outside of your scope.

    Are you ordering rings or going to the gun shop? Take your gun and scope to the shop and usually not only will they mount it for you but also bore sight it for you.



    EDIT: Hedog my point was that different brand scopes even with the same size objectives can have different outer diameters of the objective housing. I just mounted a scope for a buddy and I dont remember how much bigger it was then the ones I had but it was quite a bit. I was mounting an M1A scope, on my gun the medium rings were just the right size but with his it fit with medium rings it covered the open sites were mine does not.

    He said it is a 30mm tube with a 56mm objective. You will need high rings for this one and the cheek weld will not be all you could wish.

    Thanks, I thank you for your quick response, however I would do exactly that if I had the scope...but like most people with new toys, I bought the rifle, bought the base and have assorted rings..just haven't spent the two grand on the scope just yet...(gee's, don't let my wife read this)

    I would try medium rings first, and see if that fits,..if not, then high rings.

    Don't waste your money on an overpriced hunting scope. Don't get me wrong,..I love great glass, but I find zeiss to be overpriced for what you get. Look at Nightforce NXS and IOR Valdada if you have a $2000 budget,..they will outshine the zeiss all day long.

    If I was going to spend that much money on a scope I sure wouldn't be putting Leopold rings on it, when the Signature rings from Burris will do so much better and will not need to be lapped in... The ring height will depend on the base you plan to use, if you go with the EGW base you will probably need no more than a set of highs, and possibly mediums will work..

    I have never used a set of extra high rings, they sit too high. I have 5 scopes with the 56mm bell, and I am using either medium or high. I can't get comfortable with a scope sitting up way off the barrel. Mine sit down with barely enough room to clear the lense covers,...nice and low.

    since the OP has assorted rings,..just find the lowest ones that will allow clearance
