Need Savage 24 Info
I have a chance to pick up this gun for $450. Its 90% or better wood,metal and case colors. Is it a good buy? I used to have a gun like this with a plastic stock, great for squirrels. Sorry, its a .410 under a .22 magnum.

$450 seems high to me. I picked up one of the original Stevens tenite stocked .22/410's, in excellent condition for $250 awhile back.
Check the actual selling prices on the auctions though. Things have been really going crazy for firearms,ammo,components etc., in the last 6 months. For all I know, they might be selling for that now?0 -

From the pictures, it is hard to judge the fine detail required to say it's really 95% condition. Giving it the benefit of doubt, let's call it collector grade (95% to NIB) & if true, the price is closer to "fair".
The gun pictured is the older model with the selector switch on the side of the frame rather than on the hammer as they are now & will be more desairable to a collector.
Bottom line, it's your call. If your purpose is collecting or investment, go for the finest quality gun within your interests. If it's a shooter (truck/tractor) gun you're looking for, you can find ones with a little more wear & tear for about half.

Up here, grouse & deer hunting go together, SOOO- the 22lr/410 plinker was so much fun I had to get the hunting version. My friends refer to it as my "super hooter shooter". Usually it's good for bringing back camp meat!

Sounds high to me. Ive owned a few over the years. I feel the 22LR/410 is more popular and brings better money. 0 -
OK , this gun is almost 50 years old with the side selector. Thanks for everyones input but Im forking over the cash. Ive looked on the auction side and can only find one old one in this good of shape, it did over $700. 0 -
Actually for the old gun, .22 mag/.410 is a fairly rare combo. Usually I see th mag in combination with 20 guage and only on the later models. I think the gun in that condition is well worth $450. Here in Illinois the 24 is popular and rough ones sell for $300 plus. 0 -
everyone has to keep in mind that guns bring different prices depending on what state your in. i think it is a good buy around here(kentucky) you would pay that for a rough one. id buy it!! 0
