Scope ? for a M-4 type weapon
I am looking to put a scope on my .223/5.56 rifle. My maximum efective range is 250 yards. Target and light game nothing larger than a white tail will be the intended targets. Barrel is 10.5 inches with a welded flash supressor. Do I want a 4X? 6X? 3-9X or something else. Thank you

what price range ? what will it be used for ? target ? plinking ? hunting ? reticle is also a consideration, look here for the many variables http://www.binocularsdirect.com/rsrf.html
the power is a personal choice, my first scope was a 3X-9X Redfield on a Sako Vixen, but that was many years ago.

Hey Amigo, Yep the airdale is right, more info needed. For hunting 4x will do the job at that range and closer, 6x will also serve. For varmints, bullseyes and more precision shooting, something more powerful will serve better. Look at Burris, and Leupold. Nightforce if your budget is expansive. 0 -
i have a 2.5x leupold on my colt target lightweight and can easily engage man size targets out to 300yds, plus up close with both eyes open. eastbank. 0 -
look at a burris euro diamond 1-4x24mm its got some nice features. inside 250 yards you wont need to use your turrets.
Or maybe Red dot and magnifier.
Seems kinda impractical but if you need magnification a 1-4 or magnifier seems to be the best options in my opinion.0 -
With that short of barrel you might want to do some testing before shooting game with it. 10.5" barrel does really bad things to your ballistics.
I say this based on a time me and a buddy were out shooting. There were some old concrete blocks we were shooting at. He has a rifle just like you talk about and I had my 20" A2 with me. Both shooting the same Wolf 55gr FMJ the results were way different. At 100 yards his would only chip the brick where mine would pass right though.
Just something to seriously think about.0
