Discussion on Open Bolt Firearms

What are the laws regarding open bolt firearms. I have seen talk about how they are outlawed, about how pre 82 open bolts are fine, BATF will be at your door if you own one etc etc.

I have looked for regulation and havn't been very succesful in finding the answers i am looking for. Any help appreciated.

  There is no law prohibiting open bolt firearms. However, ATF regulations address the legality of owning any firearm that can be readily altered to fire more than one round with a single pull of the trigger. And, ATF decisions have specifically addressed what guns can be manufactured & what guns can legally be possessed.
  
  So, the bottom line is, "It depends."
