gun safe
I'm looking into getting a gun safe with fire protection. Only thing is I'm kinda stupid on this subject. I looked on line and they all seem about the same to me. My price range is gonna be around $500.00 and I'm thinking 10 to 12 guns should be plenty big enough. Any opinions or info would be greatly appreciated.

Biggest hint that I have is buy as big as you can afford they fill up fast don't count on getting as many guns in them for what they say they will hold 0 -
My next safe will be a Zanotti Armor modular. You can take it apart & move it yourself; no need to hire professionals who may or may not be able to get it through a narrow doorway or up or down a narrow stairwell.
No need to tell you that fire ratings are only relative, not absolute.

Check out Visailia Safe Co. www.visaliasafes.com. I bought a used one and it's been great. They look realy nice too. Mine is 24X36X6feet tall, and is 900 lbs.(make sure you get a six footer) Fire rated to 2400 deg. indefinately. That's what they clame anyway. Most safes are only rated to about 1200 deg. It sure is built well.
All of there safes are one of a kind. No safe has the same plans. They don't even save the combinations to the locks so if you loose or forget yours it's of to the locksmith. Check out the website it'
s impressive. Don't worry about how many guns it will hold. Mine is supposed to hold up to 18 long guns. The first thing I did was take out all of the noched out sections and left the two top shelvs. Then I went to the hardware store and baught some 1X2's and some 3/8 dowls. Cut the 1X2's the width of the safe, dilled holes about 3" apart for the dowls and made about four rows like that. I now can store 48 long guns. The best part is that if you want a gun in the back all you need to remove is the first three guns in front of it. It works great. Good luck and one more thing. One of the highest rated gun safe is the ones made by Cannon. They go beyond the reqd fire ratings which are more critical. I don't own one, but would defineately do some research on the Cannon. 0 -
Liberty safes. They have the highest fire rating and are gauranteed if anything is distroyed in a fire. Also they will replace your safe free of charge if it is damaged in a fire or breakin attempt. Some one broke into my house and tried to enter the safe. They dented it and broke the dial. They did not get in and liberty gave me a new safe absolutly free and delivered it and set it up for me. Almost everything is covered ... I've heard other good reviews on the 'take down' type, if you plan to move. If I plan to move, I'm building the 'room safe' as rcd5 suggested.
The fellows that delivered mine brought it in the house and put it in front of the closet it was going in. (That was a big help) My two boys helped me bolt it down...be sure you have help. Don't bolt it 'bare' to a concrete floor, and remember to bolt it to the rear wall.
I can use the racks for long guns only if I alternate a "one up, one down' spacing. I've usually got 1 or 2 long guns standing in the middle space in padded sleeves. I lost the bottom shelf to my wifes 'home movies, pictures, and documents.....but the top shelf holds plenty handguns after you add some racks.
