c. sharps s/s shotguns

We have a double barrel shot gun in our shop 12 ga. has lamanited steel damacus barrels all I can find is sharps & co. made a model 1852 shotgun around 1853- 1855 sn is 37729 I have know idea how much this is worth. anyone know?

    According to Flayderman, the 1852 Sharps shotgun was built on their standard falling block single shot action. No different from a Sharps rifle except for smooth bore and shotgun bead sight.

    Sharps announced double barrelled shotguns in 1878 but actually imported them from England instead of building them. One of those would be quite valuable if in good condition. Read what I found at:

    If yours does not have all the right markings, do not expect a lot of money out of it, there were a lot of fakes in those days.

    According to my reference, ( Carder's, Shotgun Book ). The actual name marked the lockplate of the shotgun, should be. "Sharps Rifle Co". Is your shotgun, marked this way?

    Hawk Carse I read the article it was interesting I hope this one is not a fake on the side plate it says c.sharp & co. has a lot of pitina the customer who brought it in said it was her dads.

    I would be a little suspicious. I cannot tell you how many shotguns I have seen marked Wells Fargo.

    He Dog I agree that is why we are trying to get info so we know a correct price to put on it we don't want to over price it

    If it is actually and exactly marked "c.sharp & co." it is bogus. There were a lot of cheap guns sold to suckers by misspelling famous brand names.

    Hey guys my husband just told me it is not c.sharp & co.
    it is sharp & company sorry for the mistake not sure if this makes it worse or better

    Christian Sharps name was Sharps and he was darned sure to spell it right on his products.

    Another thing to do would be to take off the barrels and pass along the proofmarks on the bottom of the barrel and the action flats.

    Probably a Belgian knockoff. Pull off the forearm and look underneath the barrels for foreign proofmarks. If you see "ELG", it's Belgian.
