CAMO MY OLD GUN NEED HELP & INFO????

I have a old 270. savage that i bought a long time ago. What im wanting to do is camo paint the whole thing. The butt has a little burn spot on it that happened a long time ago while riding on the back of a four wheeler going to the deer stand, i dont want to replace the stock so camo painting is the way i want to go. What i need is some advise on doing this looking on the internet there are so many different ways i dont know which one to pick so i thought yall could help me find the best and simplest way to get this done. Thanks any advise will help aton!!!!!!

    Well the cheepest and probably best for the use you describe now is to go to the hardware store and buy some rattle cans in the color you want and spray it. If you wanted to get a little more carried away you could make some kind of template to spray a certain pattern if you like.

    The advantage to this is it is cheep, it is easy, if you mess up just re-spray it, if you want to change patterns spray it different.

    Disadvantage would be decreasing the resale value of the gun but based on what you said so far I dont see you selling it.

    There are also temp paints that come off easy if you just wanted to try it but the there will be little durability. I am not sure what they cost, but I am guessing more then rattle can. There are also high end paints like Duracoat but you need some basic painting tools to do it at home and can be done with mixed results. You can also have your gun sent out for coating but that price can vary.

    Duracoat is great...but its expensive...I had a Glock slide done and it was nearly $100....

    Based on the rifle you described...something your gonna continue to beat and bang around...I'd rattle can it.

    start with a base color like coyote and then build up on a few other colors layering leaves and branches...it can be fun once you actually figure out how to do it, you can make it whatever design you want...to your taste

    thanks for all the help and the website links it helped me out alot. last question is if i tape everything really good i dont have to take the gun apart i can spray it just like it is?

    Some did and some did not. Likely I would remove the barreled action and scope and paint those separately from the stock. It would make for easier taping, but painting all together would make for image continuity between stock/action/scope.

    I'm not a fan of camo paint over wood.

    How about stripping the current finish of the stock with a product like citris strip, sand the stock, restain, and re-coat with a poly urethane.

    You can experiment with different colors of stain too.
