Remington 7400 ejection problem

Ive picked up an older abused 7400.Former owner told me that the bolt would not eject fired emrty casing. Manually it functions properly. I took it completly apart and cleaned it, alot of gunk and rust on the recoil spring and tube. The gas port is not clogged I super cleaned the chamber. Lubed it pretty good but the bolt does not come all the way back to eject a spent casing? I have since taken it apart again and have the barreled reciever soaking in solvent. I noticed on the gas port ? thingy there was a little allen screw. I took the allen screw out and a little silver BB was in there? The BB has a pretty goood flat spot on it? Do you Gents think I need to maybe replace the recoil spring and maybe the flattend out BB. It is really not Jamming like these are noted for when they get a high round count.
I just got this for a little project gun to tinker with, but would like to try to repair it. Oh it is a 270 caliber.

    I have a Remington 7400 .270 semi-auto that will not eject the fired shells. It will fire the round but it stays in the chamber. I can simply tap it out through the barrel with a dowel. It is breaking off a little piece of the rim of the shell. I guess the extractor is doing this. Any ideas on what the problem is? Thanks

    yes you should replace the 'silver bb', you need one the exact size as the old one (.1406"). as you have the screw out you can now properly clean the gas orfice, these are noted for carbon build-up. Brownell's has the parts you need. polish the recoil spring guide rod so it is nice and shiney and lightly oil it (tiger striped don't get it).

    It is/was very tiger striped. I am polishing it this morning. I am off to Brownells to order a bb.

    OK,. I polished the recoil spring guide while I was waiting for the silver BB to arrive. The BB arrived and I installed it. I tightened the Allen screw that holds the BB snug.
    When I test fired it, the bolt still does not come all the way back far enough to eject the spent casing and pick up a fresh round.??!!
    I wonder if I am supposed to really tighten the Allen screw? or would I make any headway if I had a lighter recoil spring??
    Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    I don't have my Rem. service manual handy right now but I'll get back to you with the correct drill to use the 'freshen' the gas port. Each cal. has it's oun size and it's very likly there is some carbon or bullet jacket material stuck there.

    The gas port dia for .270 cal is .073. The allen screw that holds the "bb" in should be screwed down snugly and then staked in place.

    Check the extractor and ejector, make sure that the bolt is locking in the chamber and the head space is correct when the bolt is locked in. The best and safest thing to do is just take it to a gunsmith. Sounds like a simple thing to correct for him.

    The best way to correct that problem is to sell it or trade it toward a Winchester SXR, Benelli R1, or a Browning BAR. The remington 740,742,Model Four, 7400, and 750 are not designed to shoot thousands of rounds like the AR platforms. They have delicate parts that are due to wear and breakage. They have never been what some have hoped them to be.
