what yr was the .300wm introduced..Rem 700

Does anyone know what yr the .300 win mag was put on the market?.,.also,.does the .300wm classify as a LA or mag caliber?,.re: wanting to change stocks and I've seen articles that say LA but wanted to be sure because the Magnum stocks and the LA stocks are different,.thanks...Loko

    I don't know if this helps but the measurement on standard long action is 7.350 between receiver screws

    Both.

    Remington has two action lengths: Long and Short.

    Long actions are used for cartridges based on the .30-06 family as well as the belted Magnum cartridges from 3.340" to 3.600" in length.

    Short actions are generally used for the .308 Win. family or those with cartridge lengths of 2.800" or shorter.

    Remington uses the term 'magnum' sometimes as a reference to the barrel contour for stocks. Brownells lists these in their barrel section with dimensions. There are three contours: standard, varmint, magnum. So a Long Action stock could have a Standard barrel contour or Magnum barrel contour.

    This could bring some interesting conversation to the table. I usually try and be "correct" when talking about technical stuff. Ex., I always call a wheel a wheel, not a rim. Here is the way I always classified the actions, although they may not be technically correct.

    Short(.243, .308, etc.)
    long(.270, 30-06, etc.)
    Magnum(.300 WinMag, .338 WinMag, etc.)
    Short Magnum(.300 wsm, .350 RemMag, etc.)
    Long Magnum(.338 UltraMag, .375 H&H, etc.)

    If you are only referring to the:

    .264 Winchester Magnum

    7mm Remington Magnum

    .300 Winchester Magnum

    .338 Winchester Magnum

    Then the answer is Yes.

    Listed as you have them, there are other cartridges in different lengths that will change the answer. The ones as written above will only work through the Long Actions as supplied by the major manufacturers due to the case length and the Overall Length of the cartridge.

    Two BELTED magnums that are short action lengths are the 6.5 and 350 Remington Magnums. These two rounds will function on a 308 length action.

    The Winchester family of Belted Magnums were designed to function on the 30-06 length long action...that family includes the 264, 300, 338, and 458 Winchester Magnums, of which, the 458 was the parent, if I am not mistaken. Also added to that list, is the ever popular 7MM Remington Magnum, which is basically a 338 winchester, necked down.

    Then we have the Big Belted Magnums that are based of the full length 375 H&H case. This entails many of the weatherby listings as well as the 8MM Remington, and 7MM STW(which is based off the 8MM Remington).

    These are all just for the American listings...not to mention many other international chamberings.
