Collectors prefer arsenal wrapping, or unwrapped?

I plan to sell my French MAS-36 rifle. It is in the original arsenal storage wrap, which has been partly opened by the importer to stamp the import mark. Will the rifle bring a better price in the wrapping? Or should I unwrap to photograph it in detail?

    Collectors prefer WW2 or earlier MAS 36's that have no import marking.

    A recent import would bring the most if cleaned & well described.

    Unwrapped. And cleaned/de-greased inside and out prior to sale. The words "bore still has the original arsenal grease in it" or "bore should clean up nicely" is a deal breaker for me. Clean it, and post the condition of the bore!

    Item still wrapped as delivered from the storage facility (read: foreign arsenal) tells the buyer two things:
    1. Can't determine condition.
    2. Not 922r compliant (if needed).

    I may be able to buy U.S. parts (ref. item no.2), but item no.1 is, as I have said, a deal-breaker. Best, Joe

    these were imported and sold as 'new in asenal wrap', as sutch they should be sold that way (imo), if the buyer wants to clean it fine.

    I would personally pay more if still in the wrap.

    I think the answer you are getting is, it depends on the buyer.

    I am about to get a definitive answer to the question. I am running two auctions together, one for the wrapped MAS-36, the other for a MAS-36 that I previously unwrapped.

    A few hours into the auctions, the bid on the unwrapped rifle is beating the wrapped one by 20 to 1. I hope I don't lose big by leaving one of them wrapped. There are still seven days for it to catch up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

    Personally, I want to see a gun, any gun, before I buy it. It would be my luck to get the one arsenal wrapped gun that soaked up water 50 years before and rusted. But that's just me. If the wrapper has any special markings, save it.

    Any differences in the number of users watching each auction? (one of the things I like about v4)

    I did not know about the v4 watcher counter! The wrapped rifle has 21 watchers. The unwrapped rifle has 16 watchers. The current bids on the two are now equal.
