    They don't look like typical dueling pistols to ME-at least not the more ornate kind. I guess they could have been used for that purpose if thats all a person had though. Is there a box for them-usually they come in pairs with a display box--again from what I have seen in museums and books.

    They appear to be what is known as pocket pistols, rather then duelers to me. Need more quality, closeup photos for identification purposes though. As similar modern made replicas have been made since the 1960's, it's difficult to authenticate them as being vintage 19th Century pistols.

    They are not duelers but pocket or muff guns. What markings and proof marks do they have and are they rifled.
    The double barreled one is interesting.
    I see now they are both smooth bores and there are two hammers that appear to have proof markings just above the frame. Could you give us a closeup photo or describe them?
    They are probably Belgian and not very valuable but they are nice examples in good condition.
    I would shoot them.

    Dear dittos...Rufe has it right on as them being pocket pistols. Typical dueling pistols were boxed matched sets, rather elaborate and usually both very well made and expensive. Dueling was a gentlemans pursuit and since it could end fatally for one or both, the weapons used were typically the best one could afford. These little pocket pistols were only good at close range and since duels usually were at a bit of a distance (10, 15, 20 paces or more) these two little guys don't look like they could reach out and touch someone at that range. Look more like gamblers pistols but without more detailed closeups, just too hard to tell. Good shooting!

    My wag is French or Belgian muff pistols. An uncle had several of those, and not one had any mark I could ever find.

    Thanks guys! I am providing more photos, hopefully they supply info you asked for. I believe these are original because a man brought them back from Europe in the 1960s. he was elderly and passed away several years ago. Here are some more pics if they help you glean any further info:

    Pocket Pistols, Muff Guns...I think they're Belgium Made...The Engraving is to my Eye to Crude to be French...
