Have an L C Smith in very good condition. SN R107724. Field Grade.
Manufacturer was Hunter Arms from New York. Can anyone comment on this item like age, some history and value and where can I find much more info on Smiths. I also have a 28 gauge that I will be researching. Any comments/info with be greatly appreciated.

    The book entitled L.C.Smith Shotguns by Lt. Col. William S. Brophy should answer most of your questions. My copy of the book is by The Gun Room Press, 127 Raritan Ave., Highland Park, N.J. 088904. You can probably find a copy listed on the big internet book site. The value can't determined without some excellent, close up photos and then would only be an estimate.

    You can get a factory letter on it from Cody. I got a letter on mine from Marlin for free when Col. Brophy was alive, before the data was transferred to Cody. Mine (actually my grandfathers) was shipped to the New York Crating Co. in 1948.
