AR15 5.45x39 Upper
I've been building the AR lowers I bought about 3 years ago in anticipation of BO's plans. Beside the traditional .223, I have built a 22LR ver and one in 5-7. I would like to build one in 5.45x39 but so far haven't found any mfgrs. Anyone done this?

There are several out there, and mags are easy to come by. AIM surplus had Cproduct mags last time I was on there mag page. One company that I believe makes one is CMMG, don't quote me on that though. I am sure there are several others, let me do some research. They may be hard to get right now though, most people are building 5.56 like crazy of course, and barrels and bolts are hard to come by. 0 -
I know that Alexander Arms makes barrels in 5.45 on special order. E. R. Shaw makes 5.45 barrels for the AR to. 0 -

I would try and contact white oak armorment and see if they would make one for you. If they already have the tools, then I wouldn't see why not.

6.8 SPC bolts can be used (though it's not a perfect fit)

Pac-Nor (.222 bore, 4 groove, 1:7.7 or 1:10 twist)
Kurt's Kustom (can convert the AK-74 barrel you supply to an AR-15 barrel)

Thanks for the replies guys. I am trying to finish building from many lowers bought a few years ago. I am looking for a company that sells complete dedicated uppers for an AR in 5.45. I have found and bought uppers from mfgrs for 9mm, 22LR, and 5.7. Perhaps this cal isn't popular enough for anyone to produce it. 0 -

this is what little I can tell you about them, they use ER Shaw chrome moly barrels and I'd make sure the chamber and barrel is chrome lined before you buy one. Alot of the russian and bulgarian ammo is currosive
I am pretty sure ER Shaw also makes the barrels for the 5.7x28 uppers.
I'd like to have one of the 11" barreled 5.7 uppers on a pistol lower. i think it would make for an interesting squirrel hunting experiance.[:)]0 -

Jeff, please don't tell me that you are missing a Colt 7.62X39 upper because this is an absolute MUST HAVE.

I am not really sure but there don't seem to be too many around. This is a complete "turn key" upper receiver with a dedicated bolt and a special rear sight calibrated specifically for the 7.62X39mm ammunition. Early versions had a threaded barrel and flash hider while the final production had an unthreaded barrel. I have never seen an example with a bayonet lug. The only real problem with these units is finding suitable high capacity magazines since Colt only provided a single "low cap" magazine.
