who makes a good mild load for 45 long colt? and what size is it?

    Magtech...or invest in some reloading equipment and make 45 colt ammo for about 1/3 of what you pay for factory ammo! You can start out with a Lee Turret Press and you can make about four boxes of ammo per hour once you get the hang of it. 45 Colt factory ammo wround here is around $30 per box...you can make your own for about $10 a box! I use cast 250 grain bullets over about 7 grains of 231 powder.

    Black Hills Cowboy makes a nice light factory load or you can reload. I tried that lee pro 1000 progressive set up for .45 Colt and had nothing but problems with it not dropping powder in the case & feeding primers so I went back to using a single stage press. Red dot was the powder I was using--could also be I have the chain not set correctly, but theres not much wiggle room to set the chain before it just snaps.

    The Lee Turret Press is a much more reliable, simpler press than the Pro 1000.

    Thanks Chris--maybe I'll sell the Pro 1000 and get the Turret model. I have been using just the simple Lee single stage for years with no problems and I load for .45 Colt and .41 mag more than anything else but it sure would be nice to load up a box in a shorter amount of time.

    The Turret press is great, I must have loaded thousand and thousands of rounds on mine before buying the Dillon. You never have to remove your dies or readjust them, simply pull the turret off, replace it with the caliber you want to load, change the shellholder and you are ready to go.
