Opinions for best Shoulder Holster

Hello All,

I'm looking to buy a shoulder holster for a Springfield XD .40 Cal. What do you think is the best and why?

    That's kind of like picking out a wife. What barrel length are you using? With a 4" or less, most people can use a horizontal style. For my use they are preferable. I like both the x-type and the type that has an anchor strap around the strongside shoulder.Down side is your piece is pointed at someone almost all the time and during draw it's pointed at your own upper arm. Verticle doesn't fit me well as my torso is quite short armpit to beltline.

    I cant tell you what kind to get, but as for brands Galco and High Noon Holster are where all mine are from.

    I use a Galco for my .40 S&W and an El Paso Saddlery for my .45. Lots and lots of differences between them. El Paso has heavier stiffer leather which provides better hold when drawing. Galco has softer leather which provides better fit for carrying. At least until you get the custom adjusted and broke in to you. I love 'em both. but that is the biggest key right there...how they fit.

    can you expand on that statement? I have been looking at SH'S but can't find what I want do you mean a custom set up?

    I use a Nevada Leather upside down rig for my S&W M36 snubbie. Very comfortable...sometimes I even wear it under a sweatshirt, very concealable[:)]

    When I first put it on it was stiff. It is saddle leather fleshed down to flex, which makes it stiffer than most off the rack shoulder holsters. I adjusted it to where I thought it would ride best. A little sweat, Bicks 4 and wearing it, changed how it hung. So, I adjusted it up a bit and it rides like a champ now. The Galco leather was really soft and form fit right away. I haven't had to adjust it but if I did as much in it as I did the El Paso, I probably would end up adjusting it up. The leather stretches a little when you put weight on it and move around a lot with it on.

    For overall use, I would pick the Miami Vice Classic Horizontal holster. The reason is you can draw with either hand if you have to. Most holsters do not have that feature. Then, if somewhere down the road you change guns for your primary carry, you do not have to buy the whole rig all over again. I have mine set up like that. I can carry any 1911 style in my holster(Colt.45s, Delta 10mms, Star, even my Browning Hi Power) and I also have it set up to change over to my Coonan .357 autos when I want to switch. It is very compatible.

    +1 for the Miami Vice, most comfortable I've ever found.

    I'm very happy with my Galco Miami Classic. If I were to buy a new one however, I'd probably go for the Miami Classic II because it has slightly wider straps where it counts. I also use the Galco Half Harness, but that rig works best with smaller, lighter guns IMO.
