Model Remington Model 7 -7MM-08
Hi guys, I have a Remington Model 7 that I bought off GunBroker a while back.It is a one owner that the man bought it in the Fall of 2007 for his daughter.It is SS/Synthetic 7 MM-08 Adult Model,the Trigger has been worked for sure,and it has a Leupold Standard Base Mount that came with it.Speaking of the Trigger it is the best one I have ever felt and I am not a brag just telling the truth about it.I check it with a pretty expensive fishing scale and the trigger broke at 2.5-2.8 lbs.I knew it was a lot better,lighter,smoother trigger than is on my Marlin Model 336 .35 Rem.It's around 3.4-3.8 lbs.I left a life long friend of mine look at it who was a Sheriffs Deputy for 8 years.We hunted together for years.It said it definitely has had the Trigger worked and that it showed no creep at all.The ONLY thing I had noticed is a small amount of discoloration in the area it has more than likely been carried.The bottom of the Magazine Latch plate.I tried some SS Polish and Brasso with just a soft cloth to no avail.I am considering selling it.JUST considering.This is because I have some BAD arthritis and a small bone spur between my left index finger and thumb as well as along the outer side of my left thumb joint up to my wrist nearly.They have me on 15 mg of Meloxicam and it helps a lot.If not for that I would pay no attention to the Magazine Latch myself.Getting back to the Magazine Latch/Floorplate would I have to have this buffed out or something ? Also would it pay for itself as far as the Selling Value of the Rifle goes ? I am reluctuctant to even consider selling.I paid the Buy it now price for it and would not be able to lose very little.I looked ,looked. and looked to find this SS/Synthetic Model 7 in a 7MM-08 or .308.VERY hard item to get and if you see it I would advise you to expect to Pay a high dollar or just do like I did use the Buy it now option.They do not last long at all.One man even had a 7 Youth Model in 7MM-08 or 308 and his buy it now price was 749.99 if my memory serves me correctly.What could I get out of this Rifle IF I decided to sell it with the Floorplate fixed or unfixed ? I love the new Marlin Lever Action MX Model .308 Marlin Express, but the recoil does not love me.Last I checked the new Powder they use (Hornady) had not been released.I thought about taming it a little by reloading.But an older article by Chuck Hawks said do not even think about reloading it at that time.He said it was a new type fast burning powder which had a complex makeup to it.Living in the Mountains of Upper East Tennessee I have generally always used a little Marlin 1894 .44 magnum.I wish I had this Model 7 Trigger on a new Marlin MX .308 Express.Going back to the discoloration issue I think somebody perspiring while hunting with the gun or holding it may have caused it.The salt.It might be a 15-20% area which is slightly darker than the rest of the Floorplate/Latch.I have not even shot it yet.Also I still have the mans phone number I bought it from and his name.He seemed to be an honest Bayou accented fellow who worked for the Post Office in Louisiana.I also have a Torn Rotator cuff in my right shooting shoulder.Due to recent reports on pain pumps etc, I have not had it repaired yet,plus the pros and cons of the Surgery.I had a Brand new Youth Model Seven in 2006 except it was Blue/Synthetic Stock.Due to a Labor strike of 6 months that I was not even there to vote on that day I had to Sell it.Sir, thanks for your time and help.I know I wrote to much.I apologize.Have a SUPER day !Sincerely,gunhunter16

Welcome to the forums here on Gunbroker. You are among the very best of knowledge in the firearms field.
That whole trigger gaurd and floor plate comes off the rifle with two screws. The best thing to do is to remove it, and take it to someone with a bead blaster, and have them blast it with fine beads, that have not seen any steel(regular steel with iron content). then coat it with one of the many teflon clear coats that are available from Brownell's. It will look like new.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the devaluation of the discoloration of the bottom metal.
As tsr1965 said, though, you could do the work yourself or if you know someone with the right equipment get it done inexpensively, then it would maybe pay.
I understand what you are going through physically as well. I had shoulder surgery this past December. Loving to shoot as much as I do though, I shot left handed until I healed up enough to go back and shoot right handed. When I went back to shooting right handed I've worn my Past pad religiously. Even getting to and from the range was a trick. I carried nylon straps to help me pack the cases to and from the firing line. So with my neck and left arm I could handle cases.
The hardest thing for me to shoot was my Thompson Center Contender. Too heavy to hold straight out, and with a right handed grip, I couldn't shoot it standing up. When shooting off a rest I couldn't torque my body down and hold my arm at the angle necessary. The pain was just too much. So, for that one gun I had to wait to shoot it. I did get back to it at the end of March.
