How do you take the hamme rpin out on a ruger old vaquero so i can put a lighter one in?

  with it unloaded!!
  remove the grips. cock the hammer, insert a paper clip for example into the hole in the strut.
  release the hammer with thumb. now remove strut and spring. you will have to have a vise to remove the spring retainer. assemble new spring in reverse order. hope this helps.
