1187 Premier forearm fiberglass insert?

I have an 1187 premier (from 1999) and I was shooting some clay with my brother the other day and noticed something sticking out of the forearm. When I got home and began to take it apart for cleaning I noticed that it was some sort of fiberglass insert that looks to have been put in there for durability or something. Is this stock or added by the previous owner? There are no cracks or anything in the forearm. I just bought this gun about 3 months ago and the guy said that he never shot it. It looked brand new and was in the original box. What do I need to do to put it back in place? Do I even need to?

    like 'duck' said, this was epoxied in place to keep the thin forend wood from spliting, over the years it has come loose. brownell's acra glass is my first choice for this sort of repair.

    I like to use "Shoe goo"

    duckhunter, have you ever tried leather cement? Also called contact cement, or rubber cement. Or is it pretty much the same as "Shoe Goo"? The reason I asked is that leather cement stays flexible so would help to cushion the vibration from recoil.

    I have never tried "Shoe Goo" so I was just curious.
