spring for clip
haven't been able to find a spring for a mossberg 385kb 20 ga. clip. was thinking of making one, do have a new aftermarket mag to go by. this is a flat "Z" shaped spring, was wondering what type material to start with.

thanks guys. vic havlin did not have one, everyone wants to sell a magazine. this is more of a project that i just "want" to do. thought about using a piece of banding material that is used around large boxes. 0 -
I have a sack of "Z" springs, I think from 1917 Enfields or Siamese Mausers (?)that may work for you. They're brand new but rather expensive. One would cost you $.10, that's 10 cents plus postage.

If you draw a square with 2-1/2" sides and partially compress the spring it would just fit inside,- has these outside dimensions.
Width of the material is .510 inch.
Actually this shape spring is a W or an M rather than a Z.0 -
A lot of banding material is 1095 or similar carbon steel, which will work well.
Anneal it by heating it to red and air cooling. Bend it up, and heat it EVENLY to cherry red. While it's red, quench it in light oil (I use canola oil.) test hardness with a file-it should slide off. Do not compress or drop the spring in this state, as it will shatter like glass. Put it in a toaster oven for 30 minutes at 500 degrees, and let it cool in the oven to room temperature. Instant spring.0
