Question about Winchester 9422 tributes

i LOVE the winchester 9422 for cheap shootn in this time of ammo shortage. i was wondering .... would it be stupid to use one of the tribute guns as a regular shooter?

i happen to LOVE the fancy wood on the Annie Oakley... were these guns made as well as the regular 9422's ? or where they just made to be displayed on a wall.

its not about the price .... i just dont believe in buyin somethin that sits in a box or on the wall as a display.

man i sure like that nice wood. LOL would be fun to be out shootin it everyday if its made to be a good shooter.

    Your rifle you can do what you want with it. Commemoratives lose their value, if fired or even handled though. Keep it NIB and sell it to a collector, buy yourself another .22 for shooting.

    Guns I know how ya feel--I bought a Winchester '94 with the large loop during the 100 yr anniversary in 1994. They stamped 1894-1994 on the receiver and the sales clerk told me when I bought it to never shoot it because it would be too valuable. I said uh thanks, walked out and have shot hundreds of rounds through it--I don't plan on selling it and its a USRAC Winchester anyways(the real honest to god Winchesters had long since stopped being made). Just my preference to buy guns to shoot-not keep as a safe queen.

    yes i know i can keep it and sell it to another collector but thats not what i am asking. i dont care if it loses value because i want to keep it and shoot it.
    what i was asking was if they were made as well as the regular 9422's
    because i wanted to shoot it... not put it on the wall or in a box to sell to someone else.

    i like the look of the annie oakley and i was wondering if it was a real shootin gun or if its one that you put on the wall.
    if its just a decorative thing and not made as well then i wouldnt consider buying it.

    i like nice wood on guns...and some of woods i have seen are amazing.

    when did winchester actually stop making the last 9422's?
    i never actually got round to reading about that.

    i agree with you.... i buy a gun to shoot.... not for keeping in a safe.... more fun that way.

    it is made just as well as the regular model..just a lot fancyer .engraving.better wood grade,ect have fun with it

    Winchester never, ever made the 9422. It was made exclusively by US Repeating Arms under the Winchester name. The tribute models are just the same as any other 9422. Shoot your Annie Oakly and everyone elses becomes a little more valuable, because yours just became a shooter. Suits me, I also shoot a 1894-1994 Trapper like Ruger41.


    The 9422 was introduced in 1972 and discontinued in 2005 with the "Final Tribute" series.

    The employee's of Winchester bought the rights to make the guns in 1981 and formed United States Repeating Arms Company. They were taken over by FN in 1989 after going bankrupt and FN still owns them today.

    what do you mean the 9422 was never made by Winchester?
    if the USRAC didnt take over till 1981..... who was making the 9422 from 1972 on if not the original Winchester?
    sorry ....i am not clear on what you are trying to say here.

    i havent bought the Annie O yet i have just been thinkin about it.

    was that gun made after the USRAC took over? i think it was made in early 1981.

    Annie O was made in 1983 and sold in 1984. You are correct regarding the introduction in 1972 and US Repeating arms taking over in 1982, I misspoke. Then again, Winchester was bought out by Olin in 1931, though I am sure Bert would say the Olin years were still Winchester, while the US Repeating arms years were not.

    Hey man, if it says Winchester on it, then take it out and shoot it !
    It's not like they are worth thousands, or somesuch ! Unless you've got some rare, 100 year old treasure, have fun, and use it for what it was made for. I've got eighteen of 'em, and all get shot on a regular basis....no safe queens in my house ! Shoot 'em, clean 'em, and put 'em away for another day, and quit worryin' about whether it lost 25 cents in value ! Or go and collect Pepsi bottles ! BT
