Homemade Inletting Black?

In the past I've come come accross mention of recipes for homemade inletting black, but at the time I wasn't smart enough to jot them down. Has anyone out there a good recipe for inletting black that they would care to share?

    Candle flame soot, black magic marker, crayon, lead pencil.
    Whatever works.

    There, that's my secret recipe & it's called 'Prussian Blue'

    You might also check with your local auto parts store, I'll bet they have it in stock.

    When I built my first muzzleloader, the directions said to use lamp black.
    I went to 3 hardware stores asking for lamp black. Nobody had it, they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about.
    Then I realized, you made your own lamp black by lighting a kerosene lamp, or a candle, and holding the part at the top of the flame until it is covered with soot, or "lamp black."

    i use black shoe polish with a acid brush

    I've used both shoe polish and lipstick... neither worked well for working on a synthetic stock
