    I saw something similar to what you describe in the Nevada State Museum in Carson City about the USS Nevada BB-36. I was a kid back then and obviously wasn't allowed to handle it. You might try consulting with the different museums that have battleships or memorabilia from them. Pensylvania, New Jersey(both right outside of Philadelphia), Alabama, and Texas. Also, you may consult with the Hornet museum (Oakland CA) and the
    USS Saratoga (http://www.saratogamuseum.org/) and the USS Yorktown (Charleston SC)
    A lot of those museums keep track of the veterans who served aboard them and they might have a lot of answers for you.

    Thanks very much. Believe it or not, the USS ALABAMA is about 30 minutes away and had not crossed my mind. I know the historian there.[:I]
