Keyhole marking on AR 15

Every AR 15, A-3 Flat-top Upper I've seen lately has a small (1/8") raised, keyhole shaped marking on the right side, just above the forward end of the forward assist tube. Can anyone enlighten me as to the significance if this mark?

  It's a forge mark, indicating where it was forged.

  Forging manufacturer mark, Cerro Forge, to be exact.

  Thanks folks. I guess I should have known. I don't see any similar markings on the lower receiver, though. The rifle I'm looking at is a S&W. Is there a forging mark hidden on the inside somewhere?
