What is this winchester Item?
I just acquired what I believe is a screw assortment board for a winchester 73. The board measures 30-1/2" high by 2-1/2" wide by 1-1/4" thick. There are 20 rows verticle by 3 wide for a total of 60 holes. The holes are numbered 1 thru 60 and set in each hole at an angle are brass tubes with slip on covers, each stamped with the number 73, then below the 73, each numbered 1 to 60. Some of the tubes have screws, some have pins. The top of the board is numbered 73. Someone suggested it came from the winchester factory. It appears very old as the brass has a deep green patina. What would it be the collector value of something like this

Having been thru the Winchester factory in 1961 0r 62 it looks like a holder for screws and pins that belonged on bench 73. 0 -
So I would assume Bench 73 was where the model 1873 was assembled? As the last 73's were assembled around 1923, your visit in the early 60's would not have shown evidence as everything pertaining to assembly of the 73 was probably dismantled long before that. My guess is that in the 1800 and early 1900's. every winchester model probably had it's own assembly station. My next quest is to acertain just how many screws and pins went into the 1873, and if there were 60 then my assumption would appear to be correct. If anyone can weigh in please do so 0 -
Count them, but this doesn't include the screws for the different models of stocks.
