    Used when you want to make what you are shooting AT burn, sparkle, etc. Like airplanes, trucks, fuel tankers, pizza delivery cars.

    I believe that it was originally designed in WW2 for shooting down aircraft. Main guns on aircraft of the time were mainly M2 50 cal, or some version of 1919 .30-06.

    With FMJ bullets they just pass though the aircraft doing minimal damage. With the incendiary ammo there became a high chance of starting a fire and burning the plane.

    I know for a fact the .30 incendiary ammo will make a camping size propane bottle explode.

    If you watch some old WWII films of our pilots shooting down Japanese planes or strafing german trains you will see white flashes on the targets.

    Those flashes are incentiary rounds striking the target. As mentioned they were used for setting off trains full of ammo, bombs, fuel etc.

    The Japs did not have self sealing fuel tanks in their planes like we did, so a couple hits with blue tips and they became flying molotov cocktails.

    We also used APIT (Armor Piercing Incentiary Tracer) for those hard to reach places.
