Remington 572

I have been trying to get some information on a Fieldmaster 572 I may be selling and have no knowledge of the gun or it's value. I tried to find out the age from the Remington society site and got even more confused. I see they have several different versions of the gun and some are still in production. How do I know if it is a smoothbore ? The barrel is 21" long with an adjustable site and it shoots .22 long short and lr. It does have a serial number which is A1656245 and the barrel code is OA52 which I got confused on trying to determine the age ? I tried to attach a picture but don't know how, It looks like a gun I see on the auction currently item number 127886974 minus the scope ? It is in very good conditon, Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

    I have a Remington 572 fieldmaster that I would like to know what it's worth and any history about it.It has a red aluminum barrel with a blonde stock.

    The 572 was made from the 1960's on. It was a moderately priced .22 of good quality and reasonable accuracy. Usually a good one will be sold for $150 to maybe $225. I've owned a couple and they were decent guns and reasonably accurate but not sometheing I wanted to hold on to. Idoubt if yours is a smoothbore as they are fairly rare and worth alot more. Since yours is marked S-L-LR it's not a smoothie.

    Code OA is July, 1980 and also July 2006. The 52 doesn't refer to the date at all. O is July and the A is 1980 and used again for 2006.If your 572 is a newer model with checkering and a high gloss finish it is worth much more than the very plain older ones. The deluxe models used, but in 98% condition, will sell in my area of Virginia for $375-$425. The older plain ones bring $125-200 depending on condition.

    Thanks guys for the help, It must be the 1980 as the old gent I got it from said he had if for a long time and bought it new.
    Your saying it is the deluxe model correct ?
    It does have the checkering and a high gloss finish.

    Yes, it sounds like a 572 BDL Fieldmaster Deluxe. It should have a very nice walnut stock with checkering and a high gloss finish. I would try to pay $300 or less for the gun if I were buying.

    The Remington Model 572 was introduced in 1955 to replace the Model 121. It is still in production, and there have been many variations over the years. I do not agree that later production is automatically worth more than early production. It depends on the model and condition.

    You can tell if the gun is a smoothbore by looking at the bore. If no rifling is visible, the gun is a smoothbore. Smooth bores were rare until their recent reintroduction.

    somebody needs to tell them on the auction side been trying to get a decent one for that price for over a year now

    I have a Fieldmaster 572 that is Bright Blue Anodized. 22 S, L, & L.R. It's in good condition with Light Wood, Checkered Forearm and Pistol Grip, Gold Sites, and Alum Butt Plate. It seems to be aluminum on the main body. I got this 22 from my father about 35 years ago. I just pulled it out of the safe the other day for the first time in about 10 years. No Serial Number from Factory, only Patent Number 2,672,638. I read somewhere that there are no serial numbers on this gun because it was built before that requirement on 22 cal. rifles.

    According to the Remington Website:

    572 TWB (teal wing blue) 1959 - 1960 Somewhere I read this is the Rarest color combo.

    Any idea of value, and is anyone interested in it?
