WHICH .45
im looking for pistol for self defense and recreational use. that has knock down power and is reliable. i have a s@w 38 special that i love but its just too small for my hands. so i have been looking at the glock 21 s/f and have had my eye on the taurus 24/7 oss .45. any input would be a help. thanks.

Check the EAA Witness - its a CZ97b clone (great design), well made, inexpensive, and you can get factory conversion kits to change the 45 to a 9mm, 38 super, 40s&w, 10mm, or 22lr. In fact, I've seen a wholesale price under $500 for a 45 w/ 22 kit... 0 -
being a U.S. Marine, you should be familiar with the Colt .45ACP M1911A1, that sir would be my first choice....., and IS there is this one also which would be my second choice SIG SAUER P245 ! then backing that up is my SIG P226 9MM

After buying one, I rarely shoot the XD-45, as it just doesn't compare on any level. It is sacrilege I know, but this one has taken its place right alongside the 1911s.0 -
If you're looking for the cheap, I like the Charles Daly or the Rock River Colt 1911 Clones. Can't go too wrong with a 1911.
However, I will agree with a previous post about the EAA witness. Good gun, or you could spend the extra bucks and get an authentic CZ-97B. I doubt you'd be disappointed.

have owned a Glock 21 was ok, felt like a brick. Now own a Springfield XD 45 and it is on my hip everyday. Ergonomics are great as is accuracy and reliability. Shoots everything I put in it. 0 -

In fact, I recall hearing a few years ago that the Marines were considering dropping regular issue of handguns to NCO's and Officers.
That said, I'd suggest trying on a SIG220. Very accurate plus very reliable right out of the box.0 -

Being an okd former Marine myself, I have to say it's hard to beat a Colt 1911, but I keep my Colt tucked away and currently keep a Springfield XD-45 in my nightstand. I also have the Glocks, but the XD really is a great weapon. I don't know if this matters, but my wife actually enjoys shooting the XD 45.

The Sig P220 is one very good choice and there is not better and a few that equal. A good 1911A1 is always a good choice. The EAA Witness is one you need to look at. My 2 cents [8D] 0 -
I failed to mention that the grip angle of the XD is the same as the 1911. This isn't so with the Glocks.
Back in the late 60's the 1911 was only issued to air crew members. The officers were issued the .38 spc.0 -
