Value of Savage 12FV

Neighbor has a friend that has a Savage 12FV pre AccuTrigger in 22-250. It has Leupold mount/rings and Simmons 6x-21x scope w/target turrets. Blueing is excellent.

What would this gun be worth? New Savage w/AccuTrigger is $500 or more, when you can find it.

  The first thing to look at on a .22-250 is the lands. See if they are eroded. The .22-250 like the .220 Swift are hard on lands if shot much. It's the nature of the beast when pushing bullets out at 4000 feet per second. That rifle, like mine in .223 Rem., sold for around $400 new. The Simmons scope is around $89 new, and not worth $30 now. They are made in China, as I understand them to be, and you don't know when they will quit on you. It isn't usually long. Used, you could get $300 if the rifle is in really good shape.
  
  I will say though that since I bought one I have become a die-hard Savage fan. My 12FV in .223 is one of the two most accurate rifles I own. I've put many new shooters on it and they learn they can shoot sub-.25 MOA groups like the really good shots. I just shot a 3" group a week ago @ 500 yds. with it and it has roughly 1900 rounds through it.
  
  Bottom line: It's a really good rifle in a bottom of the line stock that works. The scope offers no real enhancement except it's a magnified sight that works for now. Tip-top shape it would be a $450 rifle as is. Any blemishes and it's a $300 "take your chances" rifle. I would offer the lower if it was you who was offered the rifle and be glad when it shoots good.
  
  I will include my patent Savage opinion: Savage puts the money in the rifle where it needs to be....anything left over, they paid someone to make that rifle ugly. But they shoot!
