Savage Stevens Model 30 question.

The barrel is marked "Long Rifle Only". Why can't a fella shoot .22 short or .22 long ammunition in this gun? The older single shots are S,L, or LR.

  chamber build up, which will cause problems when you go to shoot a LR again.

  You can, without any problem. Be sure to scrub out the chamber with a bore brush if you do a lot of shooting with shorts though. They will leave a residue in the forward part of the chamber, that might cause problems chambering long rifles.
