new vaquero vs old vaquero?
I am looking to buy an old vaquero 357 brand new. whats the difference between the new model and old model and is the new model really that much better?

The OLD model is built on the Blackhawk frame and can pretty much handle just about any magnum or .45 Colt +p load. They were also a little bigger than the new vaquero. The new one is closer in size to a Colt SAA and as such it can't handle .44 Magnum or .45 Colt +P loads and is why it only comes in .38/.357 and .45 Colt--the Cowboy Action shooters wanted something easier to handle during competiton. Any standard .38/.357 load can be fired in either old or new model but I don't think I'd hotrod a new model. I think they would sell the heck out of them if they offered the new models in .44 special. I have an old model in stainless with a 4 5/8" barrel with faux ivory grips--wonderful handgun. The New models also have the lock under the grip panel where the old ones do not. 0
