smith 629 two tone

I am about to purchase a smith 2 tone, cylinder and barrell are blue and frame is stainless I think...it is .44 mag and I think it is a model 629 but cant be sure? Does anyone out there have one or any pics of one nd about what is it worth before I purchase it?

    If you don't know what you are looking at, open up the cylinder, and look at the front of the opened frame under the barrel, The model number should be inscribed there.

    I'm not familiar with factory issued "two tone" Smith 29s, but they might exist. Its also possible you have a gun that someone customized later.

    Price will be dependent on condition, exact model (there are many variations), accessories (eg grips, box, scope, etc), and scarcity.

    But you can figure a ballpark of $550 for a beat-up plain one, to upwards of $1200 for a rare or custom one.

    Unusual variations *might* bring a premium to collectors, *IF* the gun is otherwise in good shape, and especially if it has the original box and documentation.

    Guns from the S&W performance center are effectively custom guns and are generally worth more than others of the same model.

    Factory original 'pinto' or two-tone Smith & Wesson's are rare as most are special order performance guns. The exception is the new light weight frame models such as the 'scandium' guns.

    "Buyer beware" is the rule. If a factory letter is not present, at least call S & W at 1-800-331-0852 & ask for verification of a custom finish before laying out LARGE BUCKS for such an item.

    Years ago Guns & Ammo or Shooting Times had an article all about the S&W "Pinto" guns. Was kinda neat all the different variations some folks chose to order--blue frames with nickel cylinders and vice versa, special barrel lenghts etc. As said above would definately call S&W to make sure it is a factory gun and not one someone had customized after the fact.

    I had several of these guns. They were Lew Horton Specials. They also had some model 66. VGUN1 P.S. This was about 5 years ago when they came out.
