auction bid question?

if a sellers buy now price is say $550, no bids, and the auction is ending in 3 hours . is it against the rules of gb to email the seller and tell him i will pay $500 if it is not sold?

or any other deal, it would still go thru gb and most things i look at dont get a bid.

    Buy it now prices are not necessarily minimum bid prices. If you are willing to offer $500 when the buy it now price is $550, simply bid $500.

    Some "auctions" are really on-line sales with Buy it now and minimum bid being the same. In those cases why would you think the seller would take less than his minimum bid?

    Well, it's been done.

    Some guys are always looking for a bargain. I've had several such requests, & they always want to sell privately, not through Gunbroker. This is a violation of GB rules, & you have no recourse if the person causes you problems. I delete such offers without responding.

    I'm with He Dog; my starting price is the least I will take. If no one buys it, I can forget about it, or drop my price. I don't play games, & I don't want to deal with those who DO play games.

    There's nothing wrong with asking him to drop his "Buy it now" to $500 and then buying it while the auction is active. That keeps it on the GB auction and you can both post feedback.

    i only asked because i do it with just about every thing i buy,i am new to this site( bought 6 guns ) and could not find any info prohibiting the practice.but asked in case i missed something.
    he dog,a seller may have inventory ,beoverstocked or other venders are offering the same product for less,due to bulk buy, overstocked,need cash flow,or private reason reasons.over the last 12 months i have seen ammo vary a much as 40% for the exact brand,on the same day.
    nmyers:i have never asked for a private sale,if not paying more for the exact item is tour definition,then yes i am one of those "some" guys.i call that doing business,not playing games.
    spider , tks i never thought of that, i just tell them that if they don't get any bids, i will pay blank.but it is transacted through whatever site i use. and btw semper fi.

    It is very easy to do this transaction through Gunbroker for your lower price offer.

    The seller can end the auction, relist it at a "buy now" price of your offer, you can then go make the purchase on the "buy it now" feature through Gunbroker at the lower offering price.

    This way the deal is done through Gunbroker at the lower price, which also prevents the seller from paying the higher commission price if the higher "buy it now" price.

    i didn't know a seller could do that,but it sounds like a good idea.

    i am currently trying to buy the sigma sw9ve and not pay more than $330 delivered,(will buy more than one if the seller is over stocked),also the mp 9, but still researching,i will try your idea.
    aren't these sites great? so many people are helpful.
