A comment to the locked 1886 38-56 topic

Well thank you for calling me bascially stupid. You don't know me, you only know what I wrote. I can see you have an attitude and a chip on your shoulder about your KNOWLEDGE about all of this. I am sure you feel better now knowing you have everyone knowing you are such a perfect expert, I never said you wern't!
I came here looking for some history that I might have not already read, I am NOT in the "True West" like you said so people could give a hoot about these rifles. They don't care about them or about people like you with your vast knowlegde and memberships!
I think I will actually take my buisness eleswhere because honestly, I asked questions, put up photos that I said DID NOT DO IT JUSTICE!! TAKE THAT IN TO FACT!
I know all about this rifle, I have read all there is to know about the 1886 models and all its different forms. I was kind, thaknful, and I got nothing but people telling me I was stupid, didn't know anything, and also pretty much everyone that responded was rude and offensive. So im happy you have all that knowledge, all your credits, and memberships that I am sure go vastly into many areas of firearms and firearm uses. I am sure you feel like a big man with all that. Well you are totally unimpressive to me. No thank you by the way for your inflamatory information! Why can't anyone on here invite people with kindness and help, not rudeness and basically calling them supid in many ways without just saying it. You don't know me or what I know and you haven't seen that rifle in person, just some bad photos of it. Oh, and by the way, 75% of 18,000 or so rifles out of 300 million people in the USA alone, that to me makes it a pretty rare item when you put the numbers together. There are towns that are smaller than the amount of rifles that are left in 38-56 and im sure you probably live in one.

don,t take it to heart, bert is a little full of him self when it comes to winchesters(he does know about them).and he may have done a better job of informing you about your winchester,but what he said was true. in some regions the price may vary up or down some but not much. if it was my rifle and a familey gun,to me it would be worth more than 4000.00. eastbank. 0 -
Luke, I tend to agree that with only 18,000 units made no more recently than 70 years ago your rifle is not exactly common. That said, old and rare do not equal vaulable. Value is determined by demand, and if demand is small so will be the compensation.
The photos may not have done the rifle justice, but we can only go on what we can see, your job is to provide photos that show us how it really is.
Sorry you got your panties in a twist, but I suspect you would accuse anyone who did not agree with you of being rude.0 -

Sorry you took our opinion as an affront to you and your rifle . what might have come across as rude may more correctly be termed blunt but true. You might have taken these comments the same as a new mother being told her baby was ugly.. There are hundreds of bidders on the auction side for every one person that gave you his opinion on this forum I suggest you come back here and give us the listing number when you put it up for bids on either this site or another and that way you will be vindicated in your opinion IF the gun sells for BIG BUCKS. +1. im sorry you took the information you got as you did but the people on this site know their Winchesters, "espescially Bert" and if you read this I hope you have enough optimism to search the Forums. These people are blunt but they are to the point that is what you should expect in a "ask the experts forum". Now with that said I recently purchased a 1886 in 40-65 that Came with 200 rounds of ammo and 200 more rounds of brass as well as the dies to load it. The gun was in better condition than yours (mine was manufactured circa 1892) with the color casehardening still there in some places. From your photos and I know you said they dont do it justice, but there was very little "if any" case hardening remaining. I paid 1900 for everything so to reiterate what has been said already if some one will give you that kinda cash for your rifle sell it!0 -

Luke,I got the 38-55/38-56 thing wrong, hate it when that happens, must of been sober. Seriously, don't ask for opinions here if you don't want the answer, and don't give an answer you can't back up with facts if you don't want to have BS called. There is a welth of knowledge and experience within this forum, I have learned a bunch and shared what little I could here, and throughly enjoyed the whole experience. Tis a great thing to commune with like minded people.

Don't hold me to this but I understand the 1886 Winnie 38-56 was sold with a new set of feelers to replace the ones you were gonna get bent when you touted your rifle as 'RARE'.
This is a terrific forum. The guys here will answer your questions every time; they will NOT however, simply provide information that supports your preconceptions or an inflated ego.

As always Bert...Spot on information for the newbie! I, too, wish every rifle that was over 100 years old was worth a fortune. Unfortunately that is not the case. Now if that 1886 of his was in 45-90 or 45-110(did they even make an 1886 in 45-110?) it might attract a price higher than $1600.....but not in 38-56.
Oh yeah Bert even if the teenage sniper isn't impressed with your credentials...the rest of us are![:D] Beach
P.S. I have an ultra rare Winchester 1886 in 40-82 that was taken into space with me when the aliens beamed me aboard their space craft. As such it must be worth at least $12,000 for its incredible rarity. One of the aliens commented positively on it and wanted to trade me his plasma weapon for it; but I knew the plasma weapon wasn't worth more than a couple bucks cause ammo is impossible to find in this galaxy![:D]Beach0 -
