45 for CCW

First, let me say if they reduced a 70 Gold Cup to a 3" in size, I wouldn't be asking this question. I do carry the Gold Cup CCW sometimes [:)]

I'm looking at 3 guns as a possible 45 CCW and was wondering if anyone knows how accurate they are or your friend has one that works well or not so good.
1. The Colt Defender 3 inch.,2. The Springfield XD sub compact(trigger and grip safety), and the Springfield Micro compact 3 in. (thumb safety).

I'm wondering the these guns can hit a 3 or 4 in circle at 25 yards or am I asking too much?

    Get the XD it is much lighter- I have the Micro-Compact also and it is not as good as the XD.

    I have a few "mini 1911s" and am in the process of buying another for CCW and travel. I fly home (from CA to NH) drive back cross country once a year and have the Utah CCW (good in 35 states) so I want a gun that is concealable but carries enough ammo in case I break down in the middle of nowhere - and there's plenty of nowhere spots between NH & CA.

    I used to own the Springfield Micro in 45 ACP, found it to be very unreliable - there was an extractor problem from the start, as in not even shot one extracted. It was corrected and the gun ran OK - not perfect, just OK. Point of aim was way off to the right with hardball. So I would check the gun before relying on it. Other than point of aim accuracy was fine - about +3" at 25 yds.

    I just bought a Springfield EMP in 9mm and like it very much. A friend of mine has the XD and likes it very much - reliable as heck and accuracy is fine.

    If I could mention a gun you sort of listed - the new Colt Agent in 45 ACP. Alloy frame, 45 ACP and no snag trough type sites. I have some Detonics and Para P10 and of course the EMP, but the Agent is the one I'd buy if I could. I unfortunately live in California and it's not on the "CA Approved" listing. But a 24 oz or so 3" barreled 45 ACP would be about perfect, I think, and is a close cousin to the Defender you mentioned.

    If you are looking for a micro compact 45 on a 1911 style chassis, there is only one name brand to choose from...unless mONEY is not an object. That name is Para-Ordnance. They have the traditional style in both douoble and single stack, as well as their LDA which is their short light double action.

    The XD-Sub would be my next in line.

    If you have no problem with spending lots of $$, then step up to the Wilson Combat name brand. It will be as reliable and as accurate as you can get...worth every penny.

    All that said, I will say that I never had a single hitch with my Para-Ordnance Stainless Limited.

    i have a colt officer model works quite well and i also have a glock 36 45acp xd's not found of at all to me their junk,glock rip off, para and springfield both have 1911 style of 3" 45's i had a warthog they work very well but recoil is something to be desired on that frame.

    The Colt Defender I had would do a 2" group with the ammo it liked.
    So will the Kimber CDPII I have now, also the Kahr P-45 that I carry.

    So many choices ! So little time lol. I do like the PARA it's just the light double action, I'm worried about, probably needlessly...I've never shot one. I bought the XD 9mm sub for my wife and it has a nice trigger, not like the triggers of 20 yrs ago. I saw someone shooting a Para and the shell kept hanging up, he might have needed a 1 lb lighter recoil spring ?
    The Wilson is too expensive, I just looked it up.
    I guess that narrows my choices down to the XD sub and the Defender..
    I just got a new NRA magazine and it shows a Sig P250 sub compact. Does any one have one of these ?

    If the empty case kept hanging up, it was most likely not the gun. The shooter was limp wristing the pistol, or had lighter than adequate loads. The Para with the PXT is known to perform well above the rest.
