M-44 Mosin Nagant

my buddy is tempting me into buying his M-44. The rifle is complete down to the wooden cleaning rod and appears to be in great shape for an old war relic. the issue date on it is 1943 and was produced in izhevsk. he also has 400 rounds of bulgarian surplus ammo and 100 rounds of silver bear soft points. he said that i could have it all for $110... is this a good deal?

    Wooden cleaning rod? Should be metal.

    If it is a 1943 production it would be a very early run of the M44. Are you sure its not an M38?

    If the gun is in really really nice shape, its not a bad deal at all. Check the bore condition.

    The ammo alone or the gun alone is worth that; he's letting you have it at half price. Go for it!

    I agree though, no wooden rod. Also as said, a 1943 date is a very early M44, though certainly possible.

    oops sorry. M91, bore is in fairly good condition considering the russians used corosive ammo. cleaning rod is wooden which stumped me its staind the same as the stock

    Well if it is 1943 dated it is a 91/30, not a 91.

    The gun should have a metal rod, so that is a stumper; I'd say someone somewhere just put a wooden dowel in to make it look good.

    Still a good deal though.

    the rod has the metal end like a legit cleaning rod and looks antiqued, it must of came of another rifle. after some research i know for a fact it doesnt belong on that rifle

    Assuming the rifle is in decent (ie shootable) shape, its a pretty good deal.

    Arsenal refinished 91/30 Mosin rifles can still be had for $80 in good condition with accessories like sling and oil bottle (though who knows how much longer before they dry up).

    As mentioned, the ammo all by itself is worth around the asking price all by itself, and its probably not going to get any cheaper with time.

    If you have any interest in the gun, go for it.

    The Mosin gun really packs a whallop; those 7.62x54R rounds are ballistically similar to a '30-06.

    i have shot the gun several times and i am a firm believer, it shoots more cosistant than my 303british enfield
