German Luger

My dad recently passed away and left a German Luger he brought back from WWII. The gun is all original, dated 1939, and has two clips with identical serial numbers as the gun. The holster is dated 1937. It's been stored the last 65 years and is in good shape. Do you know a price range for this?

    I have a german luger that I'm going to sell when I find out what it is really worth and any history to make it intriguing,any and all help is greatly appreciated.
    my uncle was a prisoner of war in germany,at the end of the war when he was released he brought back w/him this luger #8768,in leather case w/one clip.I also have the "War Captured" notification of the piece.There are probably a lot of markings and whatever one needs to know to identify it,so if some one would enlighten me I'd be glad to post what ever it takes.

    Hello with out pictures everything is a guess sounds like you have a Mauser built WW II pistol model 1934 but made in 1942 this would most likely be hot blued not a rust blued so even the inside would be blued the trigger and safety also be blued not yellow/straw color and with the black grips some people refer to this as a BLACK WIDOW this is just a marketing name. not a German named model if truely 90 % I think the sale would be fair to both of you This is one of the most common variation of Lgers if I read your description . Be aware that if you have any US ARMY signed capture papers this will add to the value.

    I agree with Perry Shooter. The $1,000 to $1,200 price is reasonable, assuming it has not been reblued.

    Good news for you! The magazine, the proper one for that weapon, never had a number on it. The proper magazine is a black bakelite bottom fxo mag.
    The actual going price base for that weapon should be about $1500.
    Also, 1942 was the last year the Parabellum was produced by Mauserwerk. Production of the P.38 started in October.


    ADDENDUM: P.08 should be on the LEFT side of the receiver.

    The magazine has TXO on it with two insignias one at the top of the mag and one at the bottom with the number 37. It also has PO8 and has a bakelite end. Thanks again. Sam.

    Check the bore; if it's corroded, knock $500 off the prices given above.

    EDIT: Handle the magazine as if the bottom is as fragile as glass --- because it is. And, a replacement magazine will cost $150-200.

    If, in your opinion, the P-08's chain of custody goes from your family back to WWII timeframe Europe, and no other [interim] place, I'd pay the price you mentioned.

    I'd pay it because the price is at the high end of "normal", so no one in the family will be able to accuse you of trying to pull a fast one. Everybody walks away nice 'n happy.

    And you'll then own one of the most recognizable firearms ever produced.
