Manfacture date of S&W 686

Just purchased a S&W 686, and it has a 5 digit Serial # 61XXX Anyone know what year manufacture? Thanks Don

  Mr. Butcher,
  
  The complete serial # for your gun will be stamped on the bottom of the grip frame. It will begin with a 3 letter prefix. It is the prefix that will date your gun. Without the prefix letters, "WHOM KNOWS".

  We also need to know exactly what is stamped on the side of the frame, visible when you open the cylinder.

  AHD followed by 4 digit number, same on bottom of grip frame. Inside cylinder, below serial, MOD 686 It was my fathers, and I did not even know he had it. Thanks in advance.
