Savage 99 end of production ?
When was the last year of Savage 99 production? I have a 99DL, serial number of 784XXX, which according to what I have found is after the cut off of known serial numbers. So I was just wondering when the last year was, that will give me at least a general idea of how old the gun is.
It is a 99DL, 308 caliber, with pistol grip stock, tang safety and aluminum counter. It is an easy 90% gun.

The 99E was the last produced rotary magazine 99 and production ended in 1984 (That also ended produciton of rifles with the last two original Savage Cartridges, .300 Savage and .250-3000.
The 99C with box magazine lever action was produced in .243 and .308 in 1985.
The DL, (Deluxe monte carlo) was intorduced in 1960 and discontinued in 1973.

I think 1973 was the last year for the DL They had some smaller runs later on of different models The last one having the box magazines 0 -

I believe 1997 was the absolute last year of regular '99 production (the 99C). 0
