12 ga 3.5" shells

I can tolerate 12ga 2.75" shells on my shoulder, and can stand one 3" or two in my Binneli M-1 at a time. I'm scared to try a 3.5" shell in my new SBE II. How bad is it? The semi autos must cut out some of the recoil, must really hurt in a pump like a Nova. I guess you would not shoot trap with 3.5 shells. I guess I am just a whimp! [:)]

  The SBE is designed to remove much of the felt recoil from shells such as the 3.5 inch loads, but you still do not want to use the 3.5 inch shells for trap and skeet shooting; other than to say you have done it.

  You will be able to tell if the shell fired. Get a ported long choke tube. Helps a lot.

  I shoot 3-1/2 inch shells with 2 oz of #4 buffered shot in a Browning Citori for turkey. They do push a bit. [:)]

  Don't know your age or size,but if recoil is a problem, may I suggest a slip on 'limb saver' recoil pad. They are reasonably priced (22.oo) does not require any modification to gun and can be easily taken off if you don't like it. Here is my experience.... never had a gun ever hurt me. I got a REM 870 12 ga, put a fully rifled barrel on it, got some buckhammer sabot slugs and hit the range. OMG, I'm not a youngster anymore. 8 rounds is all I could take. MY right upper body from sternum over and entire right arm down to my wrist was deep purple for a month. Yep, it hurt me and scared me. Was told by a couple buddys to try the 'limb saver'. I did and I can honestly say it works. I shot 20 some odd rounds that day with the new pad and did not hurt at all. Yes, it still pushes you, but hurt ? no. Just my experience and two cents worth. good shootin

  3 1/2" lead turkey loads recoil harder than anything else I have ever fired, including the .458 Win. Mag. They are without doubt flinch inducing. Get a good recoil pad; my preferance would be the grind-to-fit type, as the firearm still does not have to be modified, they do not change the length of pull, and they do not hurt the finish on wood stocked guns.
