    Magazines have springs and followers. A follower is the piece that pushes the rounds up against the feed lips under tension from the spring.

    Clips dont have spring or followers.

    Left to right.... 2 "clips" used for loading fixed or detachable magazines..... a full moon "clip" for loading revolvers.....an 8rd "clip for the Garand..... and 2 "magazines" left for M1A/M14 and rt for the AR15/M16 rifles.

    As the gents have said. A CLIP holds cartridges, and is loaded into a MAGAZINE. Altho I will admit the language is being corrupted, and CLIP is being used when they mean MAGAZINE. Think of opening a pack of military 5.56 ammo- the cartridges may be in a 10 rd CLIP. You push them from the CLIP into the MAGAZINE, which you load into your AR 15. Some rifles, such as the Carcano and the Garand, used the clip to hold rounds in the magazine- and it was ejected or dropped out when empty.

    A clip holds cartridges....a magazine holds them and feesd them.

    A stripper or en-block clip, holds cartridges to be fed into a magazine. Just as a moon or half moon clip holds cartridges to load a revolver rapidly. The magazine, be it detatchable or fixed, holds the cartridges on top of a follower that is under spring tension to force the rounds up and into the action.

    Please don't attack me, but I have bought brand new in the package factory "clips" for the model 760. That is what it says on the package that contained a magazine. I can understand the confusion.

    That is not a problem of yours. It just shows the incompetance of the marketing group at Remington. They use the strategy of what ever sounds good to them...not the proper terminology.

    Don't feel bad that you are a little confused. Lot's of people are confused. Go to the auction side and do a search on "AR-15 clips". You will get quite a few to pop up. Then you will notice that they have gotten smart and listed this as example: Browwnel AR-15 mag mags clip clips[:D].... thus covering all the bases.
