Can anyone tell me the difference between a TCR receiver marked MAG
and a regular one? Thank you

    Ping, many years ago my TCR locked up when firing a modest 45-70 reload. I could not open the action so I sent it to Thompson Center. When I got it back it was marked MAG on the bottom of the receiver. I could not see any difference in appearance. I wonder if the pivot pin is harder in the magnum. I have not had any problems with it since. I do know that magnum barrels should not be fired in non magnum marked frames. I have a 223, 22-250, 243,7MM mag,30-06 and a 45-70 barrels for mine. So as you can see, the regular non magnum cartridges can be fired in a magnum frame. Incidentally the repairs and upgrade by T.C. were performed for free.I love my TCR and believe Thompson made a mistake discontinuing it.     Thanks for the response Eddie,
    I too love my TCRs, hornet,243,7-08, and a 308 rebored to 358.
    I just always wondered what made the "mag" different as I
    could never see a difference. Thanks again and good shooting!
