IMR 4198 in the 223 Rem

Does anyone still use the IMR 4198 in the 223 Rem ? Looking for loads using 60gr to 75gr bullets.

  Not a good choice IMHO.

  Try some Reloader-15. It's what I use in a custom Rem. 700-Douglas bbl. 1-8 twist.

  IMR 4198 is not "SLOW" in the 223.

  I've used some variation of IMR 4198 in 222 Remington and 223 Remington for the better part of 40 years and it has worked fine, always produced excellent accuracy and easy on the brass and gun. I play around with other powders certainly, but the 4198 is a reliable powder for the 222/223.
  
  I don't have any loads for the heavier bullets, I tend to use Sierra 52 BHTP for the most part.

  Second DFletcher...it also makes an awesome 45-70 powder. I like N130 in the 222 and 223, but 4198 is an excellent choise for sure. Also have not had opportunity to play with faster twist 222, 223 or 225 bullets and really like the 52 and 50 grain bullets in the "1 in "12 barrels.

  IMR 4198 is a fine powder for the .223; I have used it also for about 40 years in .222, .222 Mag., and .223, and as others stated above, with good efficiency, velocity and excellent accuracy. Loading density is just about perfect with these calibers.

  IMR 4198 works very well in the 223... a very good friend of mine uses it in his Ruger No. 1 223 varmint rifle with outstanding results.
  
  Another very good powder for the 222/223/222 Mag is 4064. For both of my 222 Rem Mag rifles, I use 27.5 grains of 4064 under a 50 grain Sierra Blitz bullet which gives me 3300 fps. Both rifles will shoot <.375 inch groups at 100 yards with that load.
